Keynote Address: Margaret Salazar, CEO of REACH CDC
Panel 1 – Making the Most of Our Urban Lands
As cities work to meet their housing need, they must consider how to increase their residential capacity as never before. This panel examines possible solutions, such as restoring brownfields, allowing more mid-size apartments, and targeting investment in infrastructure that will maximize infill.
Panel 2 – Goal 1 and Housing Production
Despite the explicit requirement in Goal 1 to ‘involve a cross-section of affected citizens in all phases of the planning process,’ the people most impacted by local zoning laws affecting housing production are often left out of the decision-making process. This panel will highlight the work of organizations seeking to change that narrative, update Goal 1, and center voices who have been excluded.
Panel 3 – Rural Housing Production
Panelists will discuss the issues around building new housing in rural areas of the state, and the unique challenges facing government actors and housing producers. Some of the topics to be discussed include local demand, farmworker housing, availability of construction labor, land supply and availability, and financing.
Panel 4 – Innovations in Housing Production
As Oregon’s housing landscape evolves, this panel session promises to introduce innovative approaches that redefine how we conceive, design, and build affordable homes. Our panelists, industry experts and trailblazers, will explore and debate new and progressive housing production and zoning practices, from tiny-home communities to age-friendly design. Discover how these innovations could not only accelerate production but also enhance affordability, sustainability, and adaptability in the face of changing needs.
Thank you to our generous sponsors!
